Default Ok Im ready for the s2K

Good day everyone

Lots of thinking, planning, research and saving I am ready to pick me up a s2000.

I currently sit with a nice downpayment and shooting for a used s2000. I read the entire "Should I buy a s2000" Thread. Did all my homework on the s2000.

Now I am on the hunt searching for my NEW 2 seater (currently own a mr2 turbo)

The used car market has destroyed the resell value of even high dollar cars like the s2000. This is a good thing for me

From what I read I want to stay clear of the 2000 If at all possible. I am going to opt for a 2002. I have seen them as low as 24K with about 20K miles.

Im here to clear rumors.

If I get a 2002 Am I looking to possible come down with #cyl problem? Was that really fixed?
Is the trans really fixed? Heard they did some sync work and its suppose to be tougher.
The stereo? what was changed to make it "BETTER"
Most of the 2002 Stuff is cosmetic I know, but looks to be the better choice.

On the other hand if I run into a 2000 for like 19K with 30K miles on it should I go for it?

Kinda stuck on that. The glass rear window in the 2002 is almost enough for me but Im still unsure.

Thanks guys for any help.

2002+ is a GREAT safe choice! I don't own one but just based on hearsay, that's my opinion. On the other hand I've got an '01 w/ 62k miles that has been rock-solid except for the plastic rear window, but then i never look through it anyway since the top is always down.

Good luck finding the color you want, that's the real decision to make.

came across 2000 s2000 with only 3500miles on it.
Dealership wants 28k LOL!

Even if I am to get this car, What should I pay for the car? I know for fact they paid, less than 18k to bring this in.

MY00's only problem has been the buzzing gear. I have 52,000 miles on the car now. I think that you should wait until October though, just to see what happens to the MY04's. I'd hate for you to purchase this car in August and 2 months later see a model that you like better roll off the trucks.

In fact, I had that happen to a friend of mine with the new Maxima. They just bought a MY03 2 days prior and brought it back to the dealership for the "see my new car I just bought and I am coming back by to pick up XXXXX" visit and they see the new Maxima sitting on the trucks. They ask someone what the car was and they were told that it was the "NEW" Maxima. Boy were they pissed. They should have bought a used one... not even two days and the already have an old model. I died laughing.

Dealers are discounting 2003s right now.

Do you think there will be many "deals" when the 2004s come out?

Or are we going to be back near MSRP?

i wouldnt write off the 2000s either...
some of us have "brand-new" 2000s that have been very well taken care of!
the price will depend on condition, mileage and mods.

You won't find a GOOD 2002 with low miles for less than $26,000. 20k is too many miles for a one year old car.

In Mid-Atlantic forum, Narif is selling his MY2002 w/ low miles. Very mint everything. Couple of Mid-A guys went out for a drive one day, and Narif wouldn't drive his S crazy like we did. He babied that car. Narif has some mods in his S, and it's shiny Suzuka blue, Zaino'd. Doesn't hurt to look. I think his stereo is upgraded as well. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...threadid=133951

I would say go for used MY2002 vs new 2003s. Save some money. If I waited about a year on mine, I could've saved 5K easy plus somewhat modded (additional 1-2K savings), but would've missed out on all the fun. Also, many S owners, including myself, have 2nd cars, so many S's don't have too much miles on them.

Good luck.

I'm happy w/ my MY2002 S.
