Every time you walk on somebody's floor in their house you are damaging it, albeit minutely.. I don't blame the rest of the world for little nuisances in life, but I guess some people think a car and its precious doors are divine and as such should be immune to any sort of damage despite being driven outdoors and in the elements.

Maybe people should start suing the butterfly in China that caused the hurricane that damaged their cars..

If someone put a tiny ding in my door and they seemed apologetic and genuinely sorry that they accidentally damaged my property, I would most likely let it slide.

It's when they try to shirk their responsibility that I get pissed off.

In my old car I had a lady hit me by accident and cause more damage than her insurance covered. I paid for the difference out of my own pocket. She was a genuinely nice lady that took responsibility for her actions.

However, if someone damages my property and they think that it's just tough luck and a part of life... well, then they're going to have some tough luck in court.

that is nice, and despite my attitude about this issue, I try hard not to damage other peoples' property, and if it happens, I am genuinely apologetic. I respect other people's property, though I seem to have trouble respecting their feelings

Destroying someones property is NOT a civil offense. It is criminal. Speeding is a civil offense, spitting on the sidewalk is a civil offense. Destroying someones property is NOT. The police are suppose to get involved, this is what 40% of my paycheck goes to.
