ongoing hardtop problems
i have tried everything suggested to stop my hardtop from creaking and squeaking with no success. the dimensional measurements match the specifications in the service manual and installation instructions, with the exception of the height above the front windshield frame - i cannot get the screws off to remove a shim.
i tried some lubricant, it quieted down for an hour or so, MAYBE, and then came back. it may have been there during that time too, but it tends to go away when the top is removed and put back on for about an hour anyway, so it may be a coincidence.
i took it to SF honda, and they said they'd have to charge me $250 to look at it, because they didn't install it.
now, i'm not a certified mechanic, but i am quite capable of following simple instructions. the top was installed per the instructions. it did not make a peep for two months. when i pressed them on the issue, the dealer admitted they have only installed one s2k hardtop ever, and have not seen the car again to verify if it's squeaky or not.
does anyone have any ideas? i am pretty sure the small offset at the window frame in front is responsible for some wind noise at speed which comes from that area, but the creakiness is from all around. does anyone know a dealer in the bay area that has actual experience with this part?
thanks in advance.

Not really going to help, but...
I just got my hardtop installed by the local dealer, seem to be good guys actually. Anyway, I've had it on for just a few days. I do notice some wind noise just over and above my left ear. There's probably one on the passenger side, but seeing as I've just installed new stereo speakers (thanks, lucid!), I haven't turned off the stereo yet to confirm.
I was going to wait for a few weeks and post about the wind noise. I would like to hear if anyone else also gets some. It's not real bad, just slightly noticeable.
I posted so you would at least know that the wind noise might not be an install issue. It could be a WAD. Let's see if anyone else replies with wind noise problems.
Good luck!

I installed mine myself. It creaked as well. Then I removed the plastic panels in the rear quarters that cover the rear latch assemblies (the ones on the hardtop itself). Then installed the hardtop. I then loosened the bolts that fasten the latches to the hardtop and let the latches move into their "natural position" with rear latches UNLOCKED. Tightened bolts and closed latches. NO squeaks.
I just got my hardtop too. I didn't have time to do it myself. It should not make any creaky noises. I would check the tightness of the latches.
I think the Wind noise is normal and you notice it more over 55. Besides the car is MUCH more quiet with the roof on. If you look in your side mirrors you see the where the roof meets the back of the window sticks out about an inch, I believe its catching the high winds here and making that noise.
best add rear speakers and turn up the radio

i did adjust it once as suggested above by andrew; as this is basically the procedure the manual describes. it didn't help. i seemed to get the best results by actually forcing it a bit from it's natural position to acheive the offsets described by the diagrams in the instructions.
the wind noise doesn't bother me much, it's the creaking. there is a whisper on each side below your ear, which i assume it because of the design of the top; there is quite a protuberance in that area and i would expect it to whistle a bit. when i had it set slightly higher and further back, it made a tremendous wind noise front and center above 70. adjusting it slightly made that go away.
the squeaks, however, are ongoing despite adjustments.
thanks for the input guys, i'd like to hear more from other HT owners.

I used to have a terrible wind noise around the windshield frame, just between the two visors. I adjusted the back, and took some shims out (nothing short of a miracle getting the screws out that were loktited in) and now only have a little noise around drivers and passengers window.
But I can live with that. You can't really expect a removable top to be silent like a coupe.
