I think I remember someone replacing everything with ASM or similar high end japanese carbon fiber pieces and it saved him like 500 pounds or something like that. But also cost a ridiculous amount too.

Couldn't Honda have done a better job? Imagine a 2200lb S2k!
Miata MX5 2500
MR Spyder is 2200
Saturn Sky is 2800

the thing is SMALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. just like the miata. i mean, if you thought the s2k was small trying living w/ these cars. last time i took a look @ the MR-S...i think it had a total of 1.3 cubic ft of storage. 0.8 in the front, and 0.5 in the rear. thats pathetic.

Honda states 2855 lbs for the 04 AP2. They do not indicate how much gas is on board
R&T posted 2860 lbs for the same car in their big 2004 comparison.
Gas weighs about 8 lb/gal. So, even going from a 1/4 tank to a full tank (9 gal more) is only about 75 lb.
Are you sure your scales are correct?
Edit: I forgot the 40 lbs of stuff form the trunk. Then the numbers work if Honda quotes curb weight with a full tank.

If I would have seen a 2ZZ spyder come up for sale close by when I was shopping, I would have bought it.
2200 lb / 190 hp = 11.58
2750 lb / 240 hp = 11.45
