Default Optimistic Observation, or are the prices falling?

Maybe I'm optimistic, but it seems like sellers are starting to lower their prices in anticipation of sales. The economy is not that good, and these definitely are luxury purchases-very emotionally driven (no pun intended).

Some of the used cars listed here have been on for more than a month or two, and the summer is quickly approaching. So, I'm speculating that some sellers are getting nervous.....

All that being said.....do you agree? Opinions invited.

Also, I'm thinking of waiting to purchase until end of summer/fall, for obvious reasons. What do you guys say?

This is a general statement...not intended to offend anyone, or single anyone out.....

I think your observation is dead on. People are mainly focusing on the necessities, not willing to just drop a premium on a sports car now.

Everything is coming down in price, except for gas, food and such.

Here in Canada, many people import US cars because of the price difference. Now it effects the value of the Canadian market, to some extent.

Hell, you kids in Canada should be loving the deals since the US dollar is now worth less than your Canadian dollar.

Yes, this is pretty right on. What also plays a role more then ever is the fact that this car has been produced for so long, and has become very common and populated as well. Over the past two years, many owners such as myself who bought when the car was rare, have traded them in for other vehicles. I stuck with the S2K, but i know many have not, and they have now become flooded in the market used.

Crazy to think I got $17500 on a trade in on my 2001 S2K with 35k miles, and just in two years, even if I had not driven car, I'd get perhaps $12k now? That alone is perhaps $5000+ depreciation on an already used car. My 06 wouldn't be worth selling merely because of the demand factor alone. Great time to buy one, worst time to sell one, unless you absolutely have to.

I remember looking on ebay and autotrader two years ago at S2K's, and the amount now selling used is just crazy compared to 2006. Obviously, this can be said for all expensive, srpots cars that offer basically no practicality, but this car is so much more expensive then a Miata or a Solstice/Sky, brand new, so it makes perfect sense when reading those reports of the next generation S2K coming out next year that's gonna be less money, and in the market of those vehicles.

The way the economy is right now prices of luxuries go down and everything else goes up. It is insane how in the last year the price of cheese has gone up 41% in Alaska. A lot of it all goes back to fuel prices. It costs a lot more to get stuff to where it is supposed to go so it ends up costing a lot more. I work about 10 miles away from home, and I am probally going to be riding my bike to work every day except for when it rains, but when winter comes thats not going to be an option. I also read that prices of gas by then end of the calendar year could be up into the $9-$10 range. If that happens then it will get even worse for luxury purchases. Not a happy thought if you ask me.

Actually, I think it's gone back above or even now.

Here's my opinion. If selling a used S2k, this board is the worst place to put your car up. If buying a used car it's the best place to look for one. I'm am pretty connected to the market since I mod the Cars for Sale forum and look at every ad. I think sellers here panic because there is so much competition. Locally though there aren't many available.

On Autotrader for instance there are only 3 listed within a 25 mile range of me and the market is much better to sell a used one. I sold mine last week in just a few days.

Cars for sale here are low balled like crazy. Odd, given the fact that they are probably better cared for than Joe Schmoe's S in the local paper, but its a competition thing.
