Ordered my second S2000
Hi everybody,
Its nice to be back to this forum although i've been lurking around for while.
Yesterday i ordered my second red S2000. Some of you may remember me reporting crashing my first red S2000 back in Nov 2000, which was an insurance total loss. Since then i've been darting around in an Integra Type R. Very nice car and very steady round the bends, but no open top.
I have just accepted a post to work in the United Arab Emirates, so i made some enquiries with the Honda dealer in the UAE about buying one there with no success. I decided to buy my S2000 here in Holland tax free and ship it to the Emirates. To my astonishment i discovered that including shipping and the 4% car tax in the UAE i could save around 6000 Dollars doing it that way.
So i'm expecting my new '01 S2000 in Sept in the UAE and it looks like it'll be one of the very few S2000 over there.
The Netherlands seems to have one of the sheapest tax free cars
in the world!!!!
Safe driving.

wow. sounds great... you'll have to let us know how it handles in the sand ;-)
really, tho - how hot does it get over there? Lots of sun, lots of heat... would a better-insulated car make sense? Hard-top? At least roof liner?
But I know nothing.
Congratulations are due.
Enjoy U A E

I've been told max. temp. in July/Aug/Sep is about 45 degrees but the yearly average is 25. So its not so bad, but maybe a roof liner is the thing. My main worry is the sand getting into the filter.
I'll soon find out!!

Mars2k,
It was between the Black/red and the Red/black, but since my previous car was a red/black and i'm going to a very hot climate the Black/red ruled itself out.
I'm really worried now reading some postings that mention the preformance of the S2000 in hot climate is diversely affected.
I noticed today that my Type R was very sluggish, the temp. was around 35 Degrees here in Holland, and the car didn't seem to wanting to respond specially when pushed hard.

Flyingpig,
I'm sure that the top will stay down, and i'm sure i'm going to need the protection for the rear window, and possibly a sand shield like Marks2k suggested.
Lets hope they have a good Honda dealership there.
