Does anyone know how much gas you have when the there are no bars and the gas light comes on? I am on my second tank of gas for the car and I had 2 or 3 bars left- bang- bars where gone and the gas light came on. I was on pins and needles until the gas station. Any suggestions? GaToR

according to my experiences, when the light first come on you have about 2 gallons left.

i've driven with zero bars for 30 miles no problem, but yeah, i was pretty nervous too. no VTEC, gentle driving only

You probably are good for another 40 miles, depending on your driving style and if you go in reverse alot j/k ) Don't sweat it...just don't let it happen again...

I tried it the other night. When the refuel light came on, I reset the gauge and just kept driving in the city(No vtec, all below 5000rpm). After 12.7 miles, I got a little jittery and went to fill the Stook up. The tank took in 11.087 gallon of gas. According to the manual, the size of our tank is 13.2 gallon. So that means I still have 2.113gallon left.

From this incident that means when the fuel came on, if I kept the RPM under 5000, I can drive for

12.7miles + 20 * (2.113gallons)= 54.96 miles

I multiply by 20 because that is the MPG of Stook in the city.

The figure seems a little wacko to me. But I don't think I made any mistakes.

Maybe we should all chip in our experience and find an average among our figures.

I was told once that driving with the car near empty damages the fuel pump. Is that true?

I think you may damage some parts. But we are just trying to find out how much reserve we have, not making a habit out of it.

The other day I filled mine up when the gas light was on and there were 2 bars lit up on the gauge. It took 10.3 gallons, so there was still close to 3 gallons left in the tank

I was told that it is not good to run the car low on gas since the bottom of the tank can have deposits that clog the fuel injectors. Not sure why these deposits wouldn't get sucked up when the tank is full, but that's what i heard.

Thanks for the replies. Question - When does the gas light first come on? Do you still have several bars or does it come on when all bars are gone? GaToR
