over rev'd on my car
If I did the math right, according to this gearing site CLICK, then you should be at 12,746 RPM at 90 MPH in 2nd gear on an AP2, and at 12,217 RPM on an AP1. Someone correct me if i'm wrong though.
Either way, common sense tells you that if you reach a max speed of about 60 MPH in second gear, and 90 MPH is about 50% more than that, then your revs should be 50% higher. 50% of 8,000 is 4,000, so that equals 12,000. Definitley not in the "safe" zone.

12k+ rpm's would be if he let the engine rev to it's Max for that gear, for the most part people hit the clutch as soon as they realize it's the wrong gear and never let it rev to the max.
I would Imagine that's what happened or the engine wouldn't be running right now.
If it makes you feel better, compression test and visually inspect the valvetrain. You can do all that yourself and is not expensive to do, you can even borrow a compression tester from some autopart stores.

Not sure how you can overrev. My regulator cuts off power whenever I pass redline. Then again I havent dropped it from 4th to 2nd either from 90. Take your word for it.

First off, I have an ap1 and my top speed in second gear is 60mph.
My car is in the shop right now, having new retainers and keepers installed from an ap2. My retainers cracked after downshifting from third (at redline) down to second gear, while attempting to shift into fourth. My car ran fine with no symptoms of any damage. But, upon inspection my retainers were cracked and ready to give out. I was lucky I didn't drop a valve when it happened.
12k rpm is accurate, not 10,500 rpm.
Feel free to shoot me a PM, if you have any questions.

[QUOTE=kayvan_pour,Feb 20 2006, 06:40 PM]It would behigher than 10,500 rpms... 12,000 sounds right...
I had this happen to me before. The first time nothing happened, but slowy I felt like the car was driving weird, and it was really botheering me. Then I did it again and it bairly even when into gear but the engine was weak from the first one and I bent my valves...

That really sucks man, I hope everything is ok. Thank God for me the one time that I missed 4th and hit 2nd instead was in my Altima and I caught it quick... even if it would have caught I still would have been under redline because I was only going 40mph I think.
