on some engines you can change the springs without removing the head. Try that route It will save you some money.

 

i have a 9k redline chip in the car and yea i raised the rev limiter...wen i gun it...i usually shift at 8400.

Yea it's $700 bucks, but keep in mind the're removing the head, so It's not too bad when you think of all the work. that's why I do my own work lol

so how bad is it to the engine if u like were racing and u completely missed the gear and floored the gas cuz u were trying to gun it? is it as bad as actually putting it in the wrong gear?

 

This makes me worried when sorting through the used s2k market. Any way to estimate the condition of the valves/retainers through driving the car? I usually do compression/leakdown tests on any car I buy, but I'm not taking the damn head off.

I don't see how you can even compare the transmission of an s2000 to that of a frontier truck. I liked the integra transmissions and put many a thousand miles on them though. The transmission isn't normally notchy unless it's still cold, and the ability to shift without the clutch isn't a great contributor to the quality of a transmission.

 

Not necessarily. If you simply floor the accelerator after missing a gear, you'd be in neutral, therefore the electronic rev limiter will cut off fuel and you'll just bounce off the rev limiter. Not great for your car, but better than putting it in the wrong gear, as the tires spinning the differential/tranny/engine will cause the engine to rev to the speed of the tires, which, in the case of shifting to second instead of fourth after redlining third, will be much higher than the max RPM for the engine.
