Default Owner's Link for s2000 says use 5W30??

Just logged on and entered my VIN# on Honda's www.ahm-ownerlink.com. It knew my car's year and color.

The site tells me to maintenance my car with 5W30...

"Honda recommends using a 5W30 motor oil year-round. Lighter oils flow easier once the cold engine starts, bringing vital lubrication to moving parts. "

I thought it's supposed to be 10W30!

The site also tells me how to inspect my automatic transmission fluid.

MY'00 and MY'01 Manuals state 5W30....

MY'02 specifies 10W30.......

Go figure? But this is the root of your question .

Check your oil cap. What does it say? It should say 10W30.

My new 02 manual says gives the ambient temperature operating ranges for both 5W-40 & and 10W-30 viscosities. In Nevada (and most western states) 10W-30 should be the choice for most of the year. You guys in Minnesota, upper NY, (Alaska??) etc. should be using 5-W40 in the winter months.

I remember using 10W-40 years ago in my V-8's (60's & 70's) year round growing up in Nebraska. My dad was a Chevy dealer and built and raced super-modified sprints (dirt track). Alot of stuff I was taught then doesn't apply to todays engines or driving anymore. It's hell getting old.

What is some good advice regarding brands of motor oil to use? I have been using Penz for years for all my cars/trucks- even in my 91 vette. I am reading about you guys using "Mobil Oil" and "Castrol" and some synthetics.

I would like to take a poll to see what all you guys are using for motor oil

My 2001 Owner's Manual says to use 10W-30... so that's what I use. I don't remember what the oil fill cap reads, but I'm pretty sure it also says to use 10W-30.

I think the website is wrong because most, if not all, modern Hondas use 5W-30. My 2000 Integra R (B18C5) used 5W-30, my wife's 1998 Integra (B18A) uses 5W-30... In contrast, I had 1992 Integra GSR (B17A) that used 10W-30.

I don't understand the confusion over which oil to use... Just read your manual.
