I drove cross country with my S in the summer.

If you have a fresh coat of wax, the tape may not stick, so test it first. I know blue tape doesn't stick to my car after a few coats of fresh zaino.

You can tape your car without any issues. I'd replace the tape every other day, though. The heat will leave tape residue on your paint...doesn't really do damage. It's just a pain to remove the residue.

why dont you get the clear bumper protective things. Many auto sites have them online. Almost like a clear bra that you can remove anytime.

Not very cost effective for a one time thing...

Question. Every other day? Everywhere I looked, painters tape is VERY expensive. About $5.00 for a regular roll. I spent nearly $30 for a pack from the Home Depot. Where are you guys getting tape from?

There's a post somewhere on the net where an S4 was completely covered (EDIT, it was posted above). By cost alone, it would be cheaper to have a car mover transport the car for you than to tape the entire car.

Final question, does painters tape leave a residue when it's very hot, even if it's on for a day or two?

The cars that are taped fully usually have owners that have a connection to a workplace. I doubt someone would pay 3ish bills to cover their car... I bet some employer is missing some inventory...

I used clear Contact Paper on the front of my car when I moved (drove) from Florida to Colorado. It worked well and removed easy from what I remember.

I've only got 900 miles on mine and already have a windshield chip. I'm thinking about something for the windshield too, like maybe some tear-offs like NASCAR uses. I'll bet their pricey though.

Buy a used bra on ebay...make the trip...then sell the thing for what you paid (or close to it.) Or just keep it for future trips.

How much value do you place on your time.

Plus the bra will protect against stones that will chip the paint right through the tape.
