Default Painters tape on the front end?

Well Ive searched all I could about road trips, road racing, etc to see whats covered with taping up the front end of my car and...

Ya'll think it would be ok to use painters tape on the front bumper/fenders/front edge of hood for a 1200 mile road trip from TX to SC? I am asking because A: Its June and hot as hell, and B I don't want to jack up my paint...

My thoughts were to throw a few coats of wax on it and have at it with the blue tape. I am trying to avoid rock chips, scratches, bugs, etc. etc.

It'll look a little wonky but it will work.

I've seen many people do this when they drive a long distance for a show or for a meet.

Wax first....then tape and you'll be fine..
