Parking Brake sticking
Hey all-
Just got my S2K last thursday. It is an '00 with 45,000 miles on it. It is a Honda Certified Car. When I brought it home the first day, I noticed something smelled like it was burning. I thought it was the tires, as I got the tach up to around 8000 RPM. I had never owned a car with that kinda horsepower, so I assumed the rubber was just hot. It continued for another 2 days. I then noticed that the rear tires were squeaking when going from slow to stop and from stop to slow at lights. I could also, on a mild hill, take it outta gear and let the parking brake off, and the car would not move. It seems as though the parking brake is stuck. I took it in for service today. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this problem anywhere else?
Secondly, I noticed that when I decelerated in any gear, above 3000 RPM, the transmission is noticable louder than if gas is applied. I dont know if this is just a quirk of the car, if there is something wrong, or if I am just not used to sitting 6 inches from the transmission. Is this difference in noise from the transmission normal?
thanks
John

dealer should be able to fix the brakes..
and it sounds like you must have your top up if you are hearing those noises- those sounds are normal and are the cars way of telling you to put the top down!!

The second part is typical, and not really harmful. It comes from a resonance in the transmission that damping springs in the clutch are supposed to quiet down, but the springs' effectiveness goes away after a while. The is a Technical Service Bulletin on this which the dealer may or may not do for no charge. Mine buzzes, but I'd rather listen to it than have someone dig into my car. If a person needed a clutch anyway, then it would certainly be worth pursuing.
On the first item, yeah, have the dealer take care of it, since your car is Certified. If the parking brake is not routinely used, it can freeze up, especially if you live where the roads are salted in the winter.

I live in FL, so salt isnt a problem, and I have always use the parking brake...i never leave the car in gear. Do you know how hard it is to change the top? I need a new top and I was thinking of doing it myself, as I have a friend who is very car savvy.
