Having removed my dash several times... and taken the cover off of the passenger airbag, I have some relevant information:

It definitely appears from a Honda Parts Computer that the black (or MY 2002 red, blue, black) plastic airbag cover is sold only with the entire airbag. The cover is only loosely attached to the perimeter of the airbag with bent metal hooks on the airbag frame that go through holes on the underside of the plastic cover. The cover is of course highly "scored" on the underside so the explosion of the airbag easily rips the cover open in precise "pre-scored" areas.

My point: The main part of the cover rests on nothing and doesn't even touch the airbag. If it is drooping then it is because the "prescored" lines of the underside are not intact enough to support the intended shape of the cover. The curved shape of the cover stays only because the "prescores" are strong enough to support the shape...

Taking the airbag out is easy... but not recommended. Plus, once you have it out you will need to reset the SRS system after it is returned with an $8.00 resisitor loop purchased fronm Honda Parts...

My point: once the airbag is out and the cover is removed (anothedr easy task) there is nothing you can do to restore its shape. You need another cover that has enough underside support to keep its shape. This is your Honda dealer's responsability... even for cosmetic defects. I'm sure the airbag under the drooping cover is fine and perfectly functional (I cannot of course say that ANY airbag is 100% functional until it is detonated) but that sense of "mystery" of the airbag working should be enough reason to get the part vahnged by the dealer...

PLUS, the dealer is paid by Honda for the warrenty replacement part AND their technician's time to perform the task... so it is only win-win for the dealer.

Bottom line: Don't mess with your airbag or the SRS system... there is nothing you will be able to do.

Thanks shaner, very informative, it's right that I need to know, now I'm sure that I can't fix it by myself.
Bye
