Default Passenger side airbag sensor

Does anyone know if my04 will deploy it's passenger-side airbag if my 2 year old is riding with me and we have an accident?

I realize that it's not a great idea, but I'd like to think that he'll be OK if I need to do an emergency daycare trip.

I have heard so many different stories on this subject. People have said the following....

Passenger airbag will not deploy if passenger is under XX Lbs.
Child is ok if more than 18 inches from dash.
Use helms guide to disarm passenger airbag.
Passenger airbag can not be disabled without disabling the drivers side.

I have heard people say the above is accurate and others who say it is not accurate. I've never seen any proof of either. Just to be safe I had a dealer reccomend a technician who was able to install a switch in my car that will disable the passenger airbag without disrupting the drivers side.

If in doubt get the work done by a professional.

The S2000 has no weight "sensor" (or ocupant senser) for airbag deployment that I know of. It should deploy even if there is no passenger on board. The bags deploy based on the amount of sudden change in fore/aft g's. They won't even deploy from a side impact (sometimes not even from an angled impact).
The passenger airbag can be deactivated without affecting the driver's airbag. Sorry, I can provide you with no proof.
Although it can be done at home, I believe it is the LAW that requires a professional do it and to install a keyed switch for this mod. In Canada, you have to apply to the government to get a permit to have this mod done.

I called Honda in Torrance, CA about the 4 weeks ago.....

They put me on hold several times... I was asking where I could get the Airbags kill switch put in

Well the came back and said the seat Does have a 60# sensor and thing less it will not go off. I have a small dog and if I have a laps of thought and get in a accident
my dog will not be killed from 200mph air bag. Or if you have you book or a bag of food.

maybe search it out get the number for CS in torrance and ask about children or pets in the seat. You might have to grind them...
and the first stupid person usally does not know anything about the airbag kill switches

Search under "airbag kill switch" and combos of that
good luck with your findings

I still highly doubt this information. There has to be wiring under the seat if there is a sensor. This post and the one after it would indicate that there is no such sensor:

Sorry guys, the S2k doesn't use a seat weight sensor. The new Odyssey does, as well as some other Honda and Acura models. Usually using side impact bags as well.

The SRS controller logic is not explained anywhere by AHM. It's AHM's stance if the controller deems bag deployment neccesary, it was.

Other AHM products use a OPDS system, but the S2k doesn't. OPDS (occupant position detection) uses radio waves to determine where the passenger is sitting in the seat to disable the side air bag if the passenger is sitting incorrectly.

I think the new models have an infrared sensor that hooks into the scale in your bathroom to give you the weight reading....

I sure hope it wasn't Woodwork's group. They should know better than this.
You just can't believe anybody these days anymore.

This bit of misinformation could have resulted in someone's kid being serious injured or killed.
