Let's say you're driving a 55 mph 2 lane open road behind someone that is going about 50. What gear do you usually shift to if/when you decide to pass? I usually use 4th, sometimes 3rd. What is considered "passing gear?"

You're still thinking automatic. LOL. Use what ever it take to pass. Go down 1 gear or 2 if necessary.

2nd gear will get me to 67mph, so that's the gear I'd drop to. It might not be there long, but it will make my Invidia exhaust scream real loud!

I use 4th and I do it a lot on the twisting, backroads around the Finger Lakes Region of NY. Of course, if the car in front of me is going less than 55...

Depends how you want to pass, conservatively you shift to 3rd, if you want to smoke em you shift 2nd. 4th is too underpower for overtaking at that speed.

third is the money gear. easier to rev match than 2nd at that speed and a ton more pull than fourth.

Go down to 3rd. No point going to second. You'll have to match quickly and only have a small sprint before changing up again.

Depends, if I have a need to showcase some serious passing power , I'd downshift to 2 or 3 but otherwise, you could still pass while in 6 albeit slow.

Yep... it depends on how much room you have. If you can pass safely in 6th, why not save some gas and use it. If you need to pass in a shorter distance, I'd probably use 3rd. I wouldn't bother with 4th or 5th. If I have enough room to use those, then I probably have enough room to stay in 6th.

2nd, but that's just to hear it scream, for practicality, 3rd would be your best choice.
