You meant "...unless the VSA means that much to you..."

Now I understand, I'm man enough to apologize :c)

Simple misunderstanding, my bad.

Great news! I had traded my 02 Berlina in on a fully loaded Nissan Titan (I know, apples and oranges). It was great for a while riding around in a BIG torque monster with all the comforts of home. But, the joy ran out quick, REAL quick.
I couldn't ever admit that I had made a bad choice though, too proud. Finaly, two years later, my wife said on her own without mention of it by me: "you should go get another S2000. You have been a misreble bastard since you got rid of it". So, not wanting to disobey the wife, I now have another 02 Berlina. I now know that in 30 years, I will be polishing this 02 Berlina in my driveway as my grandchildren call it an "old fashioned" car.

Enjoy the new S!!! My vote goes for a good used S2000 and pour the extra $$$ into mods like some have suggested.

for the wife!

I still vote for an AP1 with mods if you have an alternate car for bad weather.

Would stay away from 07 unless it is your only car.

And modding an 06+ costs a heck of a lot more than an AP1. And if you're going to void the warranty, why pay for one?

A couple years back my wife let me mod the car when the warranty wore out, we figured it'd be cheaper to "throw money away" on mods than "upgrading" to a Porsche.

A couple months ago, the residual value became low enough that I didn't feel I had to "protect" the car... it's now my little science project. I'm going to have as much fun tinkering around with it until it blows up.

I put the 7# CTSC pulley and colder NGKs on tonight.... too much snow to test it out yet, though.

So your fed up of the 996....no surprise.

I live in Dubai and there are alot of used 993's and 996's around and I did my homework trying to figure out if I wanted an air-cooled 911 or liquid cooled. I test drove everything from a simple Carerra to a GT3 and I wasn't impressed as much as I thought I'd be. For all of the hype etc. that Porsche's get I don't understand paying so much for little gain in driving enjoyment.

However, I've always loved the S2000 and considering the amount of money I'd have forked on a USED 911 it only made sense to stand out from the Boxster and Z4 crowd and get the S.

Go and purchase the new 07 if you plan on keeping it for years. If you want to mod go and get an earlier AP2.

Have fun and you won't miss the 911.

I know what it's like to sell a vehicle for something different and then realize how much I miss the departed one. The 911 is a terrific, iconic car. One of the all time great sports cars which I would love to own some day.

Each car has its enthusiasts and I think that the most important thing is for people to find the right car for them. Knowing that the S2000 is the one for you is what counts the most. My 2 cents is that if you can afford a 996, then you can afford a new S2000 so get the 07. You will know the car has been treated right from its first day of ownership. No matter what model you end up with, be sure and post pictures when you get her.

wow! good story. can you post some pics of the porsche?
Here's one.

I'm leaning toward an 07 simply because I love the GPW with red/blk interior. The 996 really is a nice car, but after driving it for a while you wonder what all the fuss is about. It sounds magnificent, which is one of its best attributes. However, I had two trips to the dealer in 3 months of ownership. Granted, it was for CEL's that turned out to be false alarms, but nevertheless made me think twice about owning this car WITHOUT the CPO warranty in 2 years. Plus, you start adding up the cost of auto-x tires, etc. and it starts getting real expensive.

Before the P-car, I owned all Honda/Acura vehicles and NOT ONCE did I make an unscheduled maintenance visit...in 10 years!!! There's something to be said for that. Lesson learned. Thankfully, my wife understands my vice for cars and is willing to put up with the switch.

Now that you have liberated yourself from that P-car thing, why not completely liberate yourself?

Go used or go new whatever, but for goodness sake, get a yellow one!
