Default Paying above KBB for S2000

Hey,
I was looking to get a S2000 and I found a 2001 NFR with 10,000 miles. It is a one owner car that is in good to excellent condition. There are a couple of small scratches from normal wear. The rear bumper was repainted due to a dent caused by a golf ball. The car has never seen rain or snow and has always been garaged. The top has no wear and the rear plastic window is clear. The owner even told me he has never taken the car to v-tec! I was the first person to take it into v-tec today. The car has no mechanical flaws and drives like new. The interior is in pristine condition, no scrathes or seat wear. The passenger seat has been sat in only ONE time. The KBB value on the car is 12,000. I agreed on a price of 12,800. Is it worth it for me to pay over the value just because finding a car with this many miles is rare? Thanks for your input in advance.

I paid right at KBB price for my 01 in Feb. 2008. It had 7900 miles on it and I thought it was a good deal. It was nice to know that it was a one owner (old guy), never been wrecked, and it was garage kept. The car was essentially a new old car for the same price. If you can, talk em down as low as they go, but chances are if they kept it that nice they won't go too low on the price.

IMO, a pristine low-mileage S2k is def worth a premium over book value, esp AP1s (they're getting older and harder to find). I'd go for it at $12.8k. But I'm anal -- I'm sure there will be people who say it isn't worth it.

Just try to think ahead a few years if you don't buy it -- would you wish you had bought it? That's how I ended up selling my '02 with 50k miles and buying another '02 with less than 5k miles And I'm glad I did. But that's just me

I bought an S2000 last week. In my short search I found at least 5 AP1s with under 30k miles locally, so there are low miles cars to choose from out there. One thing I had trouble finding was sellers willing to sell a low mileage AP1 at blue book.

Something interesting about 01 and 02 cars is that the KBB value doesn't change for cars with 1 mile to 50,000 miles. If that car had 50k on it the seller would probably be asking the same $12,000+. Paying $800 over for a really low miles 01 doesn't seem like a big deal. If KBB keeps pricing these cars this way you'll have almost zero depreciation due to miles for years.

The one thing I would seriously consider is how much value you put on the 02-03 improvements over the 01. The glass top alone was worth alot to me.

Also, KBB is usually lower than all the others. The banks all care about NADA, which rates a car with lower miles higher. Good luck!

Yes, it is worth it. Never hitting v-tec sounds asinine to me.
