I just added about 1/2 quart of oil to my car after about 1000 miles. I used Pennzoil oil, SAE 10W30. I also assume it is regular oil unless it says synthetic, right?????

Is Pennzoil a bad oil????
If it is a bad oil, could I have possible screwed up?????
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I recall hearing years ago that Pennzoil motor contained paraffin wax which could clog oil channels and generally gum things up. I don't know if this is still true or not.

If it is synthetic, it will be clearly called out on the bottle and it will cost more!

Don't worry about paraffin. The SAE standards of today's oil cover the quality issue, besides you are only topping it off with half a quart. Another alternative is to drop by Honda and buy a quart from them for the next half quart which will most likely be required soon. These cars use oil, particularly during break-in. BTW, Honda oil is formulated for them by Mobil.

The Pennzoil top off was just fine.

Most regular motor oils contain very small amounts of paraffin.. nothing to worry about. Pennzoil and other premium oils will not come close to gumming things up if changed on a reasonable schedule.

The general consensus is that you should stick with conventional oils at least until break in is complete (at least 3,700 mi). The belief is that sythetics protect so well that they hamper proper ring seating and bearing wear in. I'm at 5,800mi and I'm going synthetic at 6,000.
