perfect hardtop adjustment
im in the same boat man...i bought a used hardtop and i dont think it fits perfect yet...after messing around with the fitment, ive come to the conclusion that the top is always going to have some fitment issue with it. i guess its a small price to pay for the look i wanted to achieve.
Guedo, I think you're right there. Slight variation in the "attitude" of the windshield header affects the rearward fit from car to car. Mine wants to sit a fair amount to the passenger side so I adjusted the side latches as far over as possible to compensate. Even with them adjusted that way it's still off a bit. One of the guys at Ganley told me that they generally find them shifted to that side too.
I just think it's not the best design, especially the side latches. I had a HT for my MR2 Spyder and it had hooks at the back that slid into catches on the car and employed the same type of latches on the sides as at the header. It locked down tight and solid as a drum. Never moved or made a creak over the four winters I used it. And I would have just laughed at the thought of actually having to grease the thing...
