Default performance mods on a 2000 model

I own a 2000 s2000. I am new to owning a sports car and would like some advice on the best performance mods. I don't have insane amounts of money to throw at this, and the car is fast as is. I was wondering if there are a few things I could do that would greatly increase hp and acceleration. The possibilities i am looking at are exhaust work, intake, and drive shaft. If you have any info on these, or know something else please let me know. Also, if you are able please tell me how much the mod should cost me. Thank you very much!

The conventional wisdom is that these cars are so well tuned at the factory that things like intake, headers, exhaust, drive shaft, etc. make little or no difference in power to the wheels.

Just take it to the track, get an instructor, (and/or go autocross) and have fun (and learn)!

Not sure if this belongs in the Racing and Competition forum but I'd say the only things that will achieve what you are looking for are.

1. new final drive
2. FI (turbo, sc, spray)

Since you don't have money, you can't do the only worthwhile power mod, forced induction, so you might as well spend it on modding the driver

i agree with just about every response on here. you say you're new to owning a sports car yet you want to "greatly increase hp and acceleration". those two combos just don't go well together. no point in owning a 240hp car if you can't even control it...let alone a 400hp car.

find a local auto x club and join it. then you can find the limits of your car as well as your driving ability. you can pick up tips and tricks from other drivers, too.

Allright! That's what I like to see. Lot's of great advice here about learning to drive. If you've never done any performance driving, you probably suck. It's OK, everybody sucks when they start. Most people think they can drive but if you've never pushed the limits and exceeded them time and time again in a safe environment, there's no way you can drive up to the edge of control and stay there. That can get you into trouble or into a ditch.

I have an 01, and of course if you read enough threads you will here the urban legend of the 02-03 ecu swap.

I just posted to the end of the 02-03 ecu swap thread in "Under the Hood" section.

I understated my approval of it. After four days now I am so glad I did it. Best $200 I could have spent on the car.

No, its no supercharger, but makes the car so much more pleasant throughout the rev range. We 00-01 owners got screwed on our ecu.

Do a used part search and find a model 2002-or 2003 ECU from a junkyard. I spent $150. Have a dealer install and reprogram for your keys. Cost me $56.

If you have another $1,000 you could look into a 4.56 gear change. Parts and install.

Or you can spend $1000 on an exhaust that might do nothing except save 10 pounds and make your ears bleed. Anything that will "greatly increase" your power and acceleration is expensive on this car.
