k&n intake. make cool sounds and gain a bit of low end. some say you produce more hp/tq some say you dont. either way the drive feels better after.
another mod would be a TP or an HFC. cant say much bout these though since i'm not running them yet

start reading up on the faqs and the stickys. there's so many mods that can do absolutely nothing for the car or in some instances lose power. best start would with going with an aftermarket exhaust and test pipe for some decent asured gains. read up a little bit and decide what you want to do with the car. with all bolt ons you probably won't see more than 20whp. since you can't afford forced induction then you will probably be really disappointed to know that you will not see a dramatic change in performance short of FI.

You have an 01 model. Which means it runs very rich compared to the other later models. You will make more power increases with a Vafc then any bolt on intake or exhaust system. Normally I would not start with this for a first mod, but considering what i just stated for an 01, it makes a great first mod, or in your case a 4th. You will likely make 10whp with this alone. Don't bother with a header yet or ever. I'm making 225 Dyno Jet whp on my 01 with a stock header and dual 60mm Tanabe cat back with test pipe, drop in KN filter, Aluminum flywheel and vafc2. And a few other minor things for assistance which I won't bother mentioning. Considering a bone stock 00-01 make about 190whp, 225whp is a pretty nice gain, and with a year car that weighs 2700 its definitely noticeably faster.

If you want some added trq multiplication for better response and a better hole shot wile still maintaining your balance in good hywy pulls, I would recommend to you gears or smaller tire sizing to achieve this and not go above a 4.44 ratio. I have found 4.30 works really well for me with 225whp. More power you make ideally the less gearing you want to have, gearing has its limitations although not apparent to everyone as you may find in many thread debates. If you don't care about performance numbers and just want to have fun, they make a 4.56-7 and 4.77 which will make you feel fast and certainly give you a good jolt out of the hole. I've run all but the 4.77
