Pissssssed!
Jebus. That's a pretty serious "ding"!
I'm always super careful when I park - try to isolate the car, park next to the [other car] passenger side, walk a little extra if needed, etc. That being said, sometimes you just can't avoid shit like this.
Anyway, sorry to see your ride damaged. I hope you get some satisfaction. I'm actually surprised they left a number at all if it's not legit (vs. doing nothing at all).
You know, if it were me, I might consider replacing the door with a clean used part. No paint matching/hassles, and there are always quite a few cars being parted out on here.

Yeah. Things like that happening to my previous cars are why I:
1. Park in BFE. As far out as I can go.
2. Never park in two spaces, even in BFE. Some asshat will key you just because.
3. Park in corner spaces or extra wide spaces.
4. Park as far toward the curb as possible.
5. Park where I can see the car if possible.
Despite all of the above, it seems that if I park as far as I can from other cars, I'll come out and find other cars on all sides of me.
It's like some sort of herding instinct. If you park somewhere, people will thing "Hey, that DOES look like a good place to park!" and park right next to you.
