Default Plastic panel in "glove box" area

So I had to take this panel out in my '04 to connect the DCI wire to the speed sensor last week. I was very careful, but that piece of crap broke in two places... WTF?

I've been taking cars apart for years, and the only thing that I've seen this weak is well... anything plastic on an older Mitsubishi (shitty DSM plastic).

I assume that the prior owner must have taken it off and possibly stressed it to break or something, but there were no modifications, etc. Maybe it was his dumb-ass wife or other multiple people trying to open it as a glove box?

Good thing the replacement part is only like $7-8. Probably because this happens a lot.

So I have two questions regarding this:

1. Does it come with the metal pieces that expand to hold it into place? I'm missing one.

2. It seems that the AP2v2 came with a slightly different piece there that adds a pocket or two. Will that fit in my '04? And does anyone have any opinion on it or pictures with what it will hold? It's a good amount more expensive, but I'm wondering if I should bother with it. Also, is it any stronger (not that I'd be breaking it anyway, but curious).

Thanks!

I think I have read that the AP2.2 piece will not fit the AP2.1 dash without modification. I agree it would be really nice to have the pockets.

I have seen this "shelf" on the AP2s and would like to have one. Do they fit the Ap1?

No - the newer shelf with storage does not fit older cars- you need the entire dash to make it work.

Absolutely the only way I could get that panel off was to snake my hands behind it and push on the clips; any sort of prying or pulling was not working for me. Sorry to hear yours broke.

I'm fairly certain that it was already broken, now that I see that one of the pieces was already missing (why I need another clip).

But I notice now that that is possible and plan on doing that if I ever need to take it off again (thought I probably won't.

The good thing is that technically you can't even notice any problems with it, but I'm going to replace it anyway. Seriously though, WHAT JUNK! Honda makes mistakes now and then, this is one of them.

But hell, if this is the worst they can do, hats off to you! You're no Mitsubishi or Mazda! Although, there sure are a lot of problems with Accord transmissions...

You can get a replacement from Majestic Honda for about $7.50 (see the link at http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...+PANEL+GARNISH)

Yeah. At least the junky parts are the ones we don't use much

Yep!

That's what I was really happy about, the fact that it wasn't too expensive!

I need to order it along with my CR Sway!
