Please help! Idle dips, almost dying on warm-up!!
I've had my S for about 4 months, this problem occurred about a month ago. After I give throttle (low or high rpm) then released the gas pedal, the rpm goes below 1k to .5 or even lower sometimes, the engine acts like its dying, and the car shakes. This happens mostly when the car is warming up and a period of time after its warmed up, with the clutch in or clutch out/ neutral. Can someone please tell me whats wrong with my car? Xviper? Thanks in advance.
tap the map sensor
this seems to work for some people, but not for me. maybe my map sensor is bad and unresponsive to the tap fix. my car has the same problem.
the map sensor is located on the throttle body.

In most cases, the "MAP whack" seems to do the trick PLUS allowing the ECU to "learn" what it needs to do to keep the revs from dropping that low. However, in some cases, a new MAP sensor is needed to fix it. In other cases, it is the IAC mechanism, which comprises of a valve and a solenoid.
Start with the MAP whack thing, reset the ECU and give it several driving cycles to see if it will learn. (Don't fight it by giving it more gas when it happens. It learns better if you don't help.) Take the rubber handle of a screwdriver and firmly tap the top of the MAP sensor a few times, unclip the wiring harness and put it back solidly. To reset the ECU, look at the fuse panel legend on the driver's side kick panel and see where the "BACK UP" fuse is. Pull this fuse (with engine OFF) for about 30 seconds and replace it.
Sometimes with the change of season, the ECU has a bit of a brain fart and needs a few "near death" experiences to learn.
ps. Please make your thread title a little more descriptive if you want peoples' attention. It will also help in future searches for others who come later.

Hey Denniz, I edited your title for you.
I have the same problem and it bugs me. The last time I had a car that did that, it was a beater that had a blown HG!! Is a new car supposed to have this problem? Shouldnt the dealership have to fix it without us having to tap on the MAP sensor? I paid for a warrenty and I feel they should fix it.

The following may or may not be applicable to everyone's case but it may hearten you to know that this ECU can and does eventually learn:
