Hi All,

I changed my oil over the weekend and had to disconnect the "thingy" (technical term) above the oil filter in order to pull it out. It looks like its some kind of sensor directly above the oil filter. Well, I forgot to connect it back up after finishing the oil change and my Check Engine light went on. I connected the plug back in, but the light remained. I was able to clear the Check Engine light (fuse trick) and everything seems to be fine, but I'm curious as to what that thingy is that I disconnected. It uses a small round plug with a notch for alignment. Can someone please identify this part, and tell me what if any damage can be done when starting the car without it?

I'm pretty sure that was the VTEC solenoid you disconnected. I did the same thing after an oil change. I dont think it's an issue

I never had to disconnect anything to get the filter out. Maybe you have really big hands.

 

Hey, an S2k owner in Blacksburg, very nice. I saw an S2k parked in the Squires parking lot (Tech) about a month ago, perhaps that was you? If it was, I have you to thank for introducing me to this car.

If you don't mind, could I ask where you got your car? Did you pay MSRP or what? It WILL be my next purchase, so I'm gathering all the info I can Thanks for your help.

Sunchild -- I don't have really big hands, and truth be told you can get the filter out from the top without disconnecting the plug, but its easier to get the filter out after disconnecting it. I'm pretty anal about spilling oil and since the oil filter was fairly full, I didn't want to risk tipping it over during the removal process.

Throtex -- it was probably me, dunno. There is another Silver one around town, but I've only seen it once. I got mine out in Portland, OR (just moved from there), so I'm not much help locally. I know the Honda dealer in Christiansburg occasionally has one, but I don't know what they're selling for. I got mine in Feb'00 and yes, I had to pay a little over MSRP but that was what they were going for in the northwest.

There's two people in christiansburg with silver ones. Also 2 Yellow ones in blacksburg that I've seen.
