This is a great idea! only question i have is would there be any prolbems with cops stopping you for have a blue light visible to the public... something like improper lighting... Not really sure. If there is a list of buyers for this kit put me on!!! I personally would like a blue glow on the inside of my car... changing to red when braking would be cool too... thanks for this great idea

Option 1, but i would like it to be 'white' when no brakes applied, then change when they are applied. I still love this mod though.

Could the electronic fit under the base? There seems to be a bit of room in the base itself...

One addition thought. I have a camara mount that I swap for the windscreen when I want to use it. it would be great if the connections into the windscreen had some type of plug. This way I don't have to cut and rewire every time I want to use the Cam mount.

On the Pot issues. Sure having it external would be fine. I figure it could be mounted behind a rear speaker panel. This is where the wires that need to be tapped are located anyways and there is lots of room here too

Mac,

First off let me say I certainly LOVE this idea, and when its done I'd love to buy one (just bought my 03 and was gonna buy a larger windscreen anyway).

One suggestion I would have is to avoid blue at a minimum because in most states it is illegal to display blue (or red) lighting beyond the standard lights. Why do I say just blue then? Well I bet you could pass the red off as a third tail light kinda thing.

Excellent idea - I wish I was as electronically adept so I could put cool stuff like this together. Sign me up for one once they are in production and I'll roll all around Austin advertisin for ya

You don't need a full-on micro-controller. A simple PAL should do the trick. I'm sure there are some that'll take your 12V as inputs/outputs instead of the standard 5V.

payne: Programming a PIC would be just as simple (and complicated at the same time) as a PAL, but the PIC would allow for greater flexibility. Even then, a PAL would only allow you to choose between different color selection, but you would still need components (such as pots) to determine the intensity for each LED color and each selection...so now you would have not only a PAL, but also 3 pots per selection.

Austin, marlins: Nothing says you have to use the blue LEDs by themselves, and without them certain color combinations aren't possible. For instance, the white that marlins is asking for wouldn't be possible without them. When used irresponsibly, alcohol is a bad thing, but we shouldn't ban it just on that case...when the blue LEDs are used responsibly, no law is being broken and it allows for greater flexibility.

Strato: I've been thinking about that issue now that there will be a need to move some of the components outside of the screen. There's potential to use a phone jack, but I'll have to check on the current ratings to make sure it will be OK.

Excellent point Mac - I retract my earlier statement Either way I certainly would love one of these...they pics you posted make for an incredible look...and I think it'd definately turn some heads (those that don't already turn that is) in addition to providing for an AWESOME s2k effect. Please keep me posted on progress and if I can provide constructive/helpful information I will!

Just so everyone is aware...I didn't take those pics, and neither did Stratocaster. They come from a post many months back from another member who hasn't logged in quite a few months. While the pics DO look great, one thing to be aware of is they are somewhat time-lapsed, so the light tends to be a bit brighter than you might normally see in person.

I will look for a small plastic box to put all of the parts in.
