Not one complaint about my shifter, It is smooth yet very direct. What exactly is the definition of notchy in your opinion? A shifter shouldn't be completely smooth, it should have a direct feedback of going into the next gear. The shifter on the s2000 is one of the best shifter that I have ever felt. To me, a Honda Civic shifter is silky smooth but spongy and doesn't feel as connected. The s2000's shifter on the other hand, makes me feel completely connected with the car.

My MY2000 is still a bit notchy. That's just the way the shifter in the car is. I shift a lot slower than normal in this car

MY2001 w/8500 miles. I had kept my fingers crossed, that it would smooth out, but I guess I'm going to be stuck with a second rate tranny.
I am going to have the oil and trans fluid changed at 10,000 miles. Hopefully this improves things.

With the qualifier that it's warm, it's silky smooth (except for the occasional 2nd gear grind *ouch* !)

I took mine in and the dealer changed some parts. He took one look at VIN and just said that they'd do it. I have a fairly early 2000 model year car.

After the work, it is better, but not silky smooth. I'll live with it, but wish 2-3 was as smooth as 3-4, 4-5, 5-6. Most of the 1-2 problem eliminated.

53K and smooth as butter...it was at times in its younger days (50K miles ago) a bit notchy and had problems with going into 1st. Since the TSB work, it has been silky smooth.

20,000 miles. Notchy, especially from 2 to 3. What does notchy mean? If you walk through a door and hit the riser with your shoulder as you go through, that's notchy. If you pass through clean without contact, that's smooth.

You should have posted by year also. My '01 was a bit notchy but my '02 is like butter! So I voted silky smooth, what a major difference IMHO.

Let it warm up or rev match when cold. Otherwise, if you force it, you'll ruin the synchros and then it will be permanently notchy and maybe even grind.
