Default Pop out of first gear

Has anyone had this problem I've searched the forums and don't see anything related to the transmission coming out of first gear under high rev. The dearler says, it must be popping out of gear because of the short throw (no kidding). It happens just about the time the v-tech is engaged, I've even kept my hand on the shift knob and it doesn't change position, the car just jumps out of gear. Any help would be appreciated.

Mine pops out of fourth. Haven't had the dealer look at it yet. It's not consistent, but it's definately a hassle.

Does this happen all the time? If your shifter doesn't move and the car pops out of gear, do you put it to neutral and back into gear and drive off?

I'm not too sure it's mechanically possible for it to come out of gear and not have the shift knob change position. When it pops out of gear and you hold the shifter in position, do you feel anything from the shifter (vibration, jolt, etc.)? Does the transmissions noise change--can you hear gears nashing or whining?

Another theory.. Could it be that the clutch is slipping as it's starting to climb into VTech? If you accelerate gently through the VTech range, does this still happen? (I'm just throwing out ideas. I'm sure your dealer can figure it out!)

In any event (including "short throws" ), there should be no problems at 6K rpm's! I hope your dealer realizes this is a bad, bad thing that needs to be fixed asap!

I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THIS IS A SYNCHRO PROBLEM. It is also the reason I got rid of My 2000 Ford Mustang GT. Some gears grinded, fourth gear randomly popped out of 4th gear. I know that in Ford's case it was caused from cheap ass parts. Ford buys the tranny case from Tremec (not the whole tranny) and throws in sh*t parts. The synchros in my Mustang were teflon (as good as plastic). So, what happens when you put 260 horsepower on plastic moving parts? They wear and break. This has not happened in My S2000 so far thank god. A couple 2nd gear grinds, but oh well.

Hi Nick,
This has happened to me as well: First gear, accelerating into an intersection as the light changed to green, gearshift popped into neutral, teeth almost hit steering wheel (and car behind me almost rear-ended me). Very disconcerting.

Although this has happened only once I think it might happen more often if I wasn't absolutely sure the shifter was completely engaged in gear--sometimes I will put it in and out of gear several times to make sure (and NO, I don't think I should have to do this...). It seems like it has been more difficult to get the transmission all the way into (any) gear lately when at rest. Shifting on the fly is fine, but when stopped with the clutch fully disengaged sometimes it's very difficult to get it into any gear. Putting the clutch in and out a few times has NO effect.

Your car definitely has a problem regardless of what the dealer says.

I changed my transmission fluid last night and I will see if that makes any improvement in my situation.

I have an early MY2000 with about 16000 miles, no drivetrain TSBs done yet.
