possible ??
I just came across an old copy of "Motor Trend "mag ....We won't say were
but reading the roadtest results they have the S2000 going 5.2 [0 to 60] and13.8@100.5 in the 1/4 mi.I may only have had my car for a short time ,but does sound a little optomistic ? The Camaro SS they listed ran 5.3 to 60 and 13.7@105.6 ,the SS I sold to get my s2k ran 13.5 @107 .my S2k doesn't feel that fast ,maybe it needs to break in a little more

I think the numbers are a little skewed. But If you read the magazine, the say that the way they pulled that number off was by doing things to the car that would make your mechanic know you by first name (or something like that.) But as far as the acceleration, the SS pulls harder in low rpms because of all of torque-thrust. But our S accelerates harder from 6 to 9 Grand so in all actuality, in regular driving a SS is faster.

The S is faster than it feels because it doesn't have throw you into the back of the seat torque off the line. Once in it's powerband it does a good job of making up for it's deficiencies off the line. To get those kind of numbers you have to dump the clutch at extremely high revs. Over time this will take it's toll on the drivetrain. Also, the stickiness of the pavement has a lot to do with the 1/4 mile times. Just before that mag came out, if it's the one I'm thinking of, I remember them doing the same tests in Japan. The pavement they were on was so sticky they couldn't get the tires to break loose which resulted in 1/4 mile times in the mid 15's. While the car is capable in the 1/4 mile it really isn't designed for it.

I sold an 02 Z28 as well to purchase the S. It doesn't feel as quick because of the large amount of torque the LS1 provides but it is deceptive. For me I could go 120 in the Camaro and would feel like I was cruising along at 90. In the S I am going 90 and it feels like 120. They are two completely different cars. I much more prefer the power up top to the power down low and yes, the engine will break in some more over time and will begin to feel faster. For me the LS1 was the same way. Give it a few thousand miles.
