Possible 2018 S2000 Thoughts?
I'd be surprised if the new one follows the same philosophy, it seems like all the modern reboots of out-of-production cars end up being toned down versions of what they're supposed to represent. A 4 cyl turbo would really change the main thing (in my opinion) that makes the car so much fun, that amazing naturally aspirated feel under your right foot.
I imagine it being bigger and softer with a lot of unnecessary tech/features, I'd want something raw and lightweight like the original. I hope I'm wrong and I'm sure it'll still be a great car, but given the current trend that car manufacturers seem to be following I don't have high hopes of it living up to the AP1/AP2.

Baseless rumor.
Honda would never take an existing motor and use it in a "new" S2000. The whole concept of the S2000 is about pushing existing limits, not repackaging existing components in a new "sporty" package.

The next iteration really needs a flat plane crank small displacement v8. Maybe a 3.5 liter, something around 400hp/260trq with all the character of the original high revving 2 liter, wile keeping it NA. So rev band somewhere in the 8-9k rpm range. Yeah its a play out of Ferrari's handbook, and i'm totally ok with it. For Honda it would be something really special once again. The 4 cylinder was basically tapped out with the advent of the s2000. So if you want to keep it NA and keep the powerband within a usable/streetable range (under 10k rpm), then it will need more cylinders. i-6 is cool, but I just dont see Honda with one, its rather outdated and puts more weight in the nose. V6's generally suck, and though Honda has many, it wouldn't be anything special/proprietary to a new S platform. So that leaves a v8. And a flat plane would be most consistent in output character of a high revving sports/4 cylinder.
