I was going about 30-35 MPH on the highway today before hitting a really deep pothole. The pothole was concealed by mulitple pools of water (it was raining the whole day in NJ) on the road so it was impossible to avoid, but what's the worst possible damage that could've happened to the car?
Promptly I noticed a "Hydro"? Very smoke-like form rising from underneath the car, but no visible damage. The drive home was okay and the tires seems to be in good condition. The alignment didn't seem to be altered, and no unusual noises.
Is it something I should even worry about?
Anyway, thanks for reading- I just wanted some peace of mind before heading to bed.

Roads in the northeast are always pretty ridden with potholes and gravel this time of year. The rain always does a job on them.
Dodging them is fun in the S.
(oh, and he was probably going slowly on the highway in the middle of a torrential rainfall -- there've been plenty of them lately)

I totally agree with you. The roads in the NE do suck, and from what I hear, they're not much better in Cali. My car is in excellent condition inside and mechanically, but the paint looks like dog crap because of stone chips, etc. The best roads I've seen in the country are in the SE. The Carolinas, Florida, etc all seem to have great roads from what I've experienced.
