I find it funny that they use a S2000 in some of the photos.
I would put one on the inside before the top rips.

ROD
would it work if i already have tears? and just patch it over like it shows on the jeep?

I ordered a kit too. Can't go wrong for the price and seems like a good value.

Any update on this? My hole just got worse yesterday, so I went ahead and ordered the kit and threw some goop on it on the outside just to keep the rain out for the next few days til it arrives.

Any tips on using the black home patch?

Its easy just peal and stick. Use black rtv for the outside and maybe a patch as well.

^^^ would it be okay on its own without anything on the outside? I currently have it patched on he inside with marine vinyl and goop. I also used goop on the outside, but still haven't filed down the bar. I guess it's only sharp on the passenger side since that's the only place where I seem to have an issue. The vinyl seems to be too thick and kept moving, but the goop has stopped any water from entering.

I'm tired of constant fixing it, so hopefully filing the bar and the black hole patch combo will do the trick.

Bottom line is that the middle roof support gets stuck in no man's land in some of the soft tops.

A quick preventative action is to help the roof support bar.
When lowering the roof, reach back and hold the roof support with the fingers on your right hand.
Make sure that it stays very close to the roof support just in front of it, pulling it forward.

You are trying to get the middle support to not put tension on the soft top.

When raising the roof, reach back with your right hand and push the support with your thumb, again, not allowing the support to get stuck putting tension on the cloth.

I have been diligent about doing this and have had no additional rip in my roof.

If you do have a rip, it is possible to use a heavy nylon thread and sew the rip shut.
From there I have used iron on patches on the inside roof surface with great success.

Good luck.

Anyone have pictures of the problematic areas that you want to cover with the patch? Is it mainly the rear latch area?

now how do you deal with the velcro's glue seeping through the soft top material and making your soft top looks like it has white residue on the outer part?
i put velcro on my soft top, and the glue from the velcro seeps through the soft top. now i have to put plenty, and i mean plenty, of soft top protectant spray on that area everytime after i wash my top otherwise it will look like my son just drooled over that area.

So what is the overall verdict? Is this a good system for patching, or would it be better to shell out the $ for a shop to do? Hmm...
