pricey dealer
I went into the honda dealer at fairfax to see if I could take a glimpse at one of the newer 02's.
they didn't have one, but they did have a used 01 on the lot. I asked about it and they told me 31,500.
I told them they are crazy and that, that is the price for a new 02. He said the msrp on the new one
is around 37,000. and I told him to check the books. He went inside where someone inthere told
the guy the msrp is around 32K. I left telling them they will never sell it, although I am sure some uninformed
fool will buy that used s2K at the price of a new one. Knowledge is power

Buyer beware is the truth in today's day and age. I talked to three separate dealerships before finally purchasing my car. The first dealership quoted me 43k for a new '02 s2000. I about hit the roof because invoice is around 29 and msrp is 32400. I later found out that many dealerships add a "dealer charge" (which is pure profit to them) of anywhere from 2k to 5k. Then they tax this additional markup, making us pay almost 20% more overall for... nothing?!? I eventually found someone to sell me the car for a bit below msrp, which I felt was a good deal.
Originally when the s2000 hit the American showroom floors in '99 and '00, there was a mandatory 10k dealer markup. This has worked out to the advantage of many s2000 owners purchasing their cars in '01 and '02 because due to the economy that markup was quickly reduced or done away with depending on your area. But because the first year was priced hire, kelly blue book rates my car at 3k more than I paid for it. This doesn't necessarily mean I could get this for the car, but still, you get the idea.
(I've heard there are big price differences between East and West coast... Here in Cali, most s2000's sell for 32-34k brand new.. Any east coasters want to share??)

A MY 2001 Silver/Red with 3K miles on it??
I test drove that car right after the dealership got it back...yes, got it back.
Apparently there was something "hadn't been explained" to the person who leased it (with a lease price well into the 40K range, or so I was told), and they had to take it back. I think they did sell them for 37.5K (What they quoted me for a 2002) once upon a time to the dot communists, but that was then...
I eventually went back to them and said, "I have an offer for a 2002 for $500 under MSRP but it's in B'more. Match it and I'll buy it from you". MSRP they probably would have done, but not $500 less.

good to see other NOVA people,
hopefully we will all have one someday.
If you are looking for a used one you can go to carmax.
personally I am all about new, but I am also
nowhere close to purchase it :-). They do sell way
over msrp, they are crazy. They can keep it.
I have no problem in waiting a little if I have to whenever
I get one.
