A driver doesn't have to be driving the car hard to abuse the clutch. Incompetence is a difference issue than hard use.

Ya, I'm wondering how much damage can a crappy driver do to a 6000 mile car though (or maybe was even just 5000 miles)

Maybe he really was ridiing the crap outta the clutch before ... I have no idea
