Hi cbender,

Thx for the explanation of how power delivery changes as VTEC is engaged. Your explanation certainly puts my mind to rest about the VTEC performance of my S2000 - It isn't a grab or a sudden surge but a subtle but noticeable increase in power.

A quick update on my VTEC problem. Spoke to the Service Manager today at Ashford Honda. They haven't been able to pin down the reason why VTEC won't engage, even after speaking to the techies at Honda. So Honda are shipping out a whole cylinder head assembly to see if that works. I'll find out more tomorrow.

P.S. They've given me a Civic 1.6 VTEC and I can say I am impressed. Lots of room in the car, a reasonable amount of umphhh but very quiet. The boot could do with being a little larger.

TNT: if you or anyone else wants the dyno charts for a stock S2K (in MS Excel), just drop your email address into this message, and I'll send you the file. As for the Civic VTEC, I've driven one as well, and it's a good ride. Before my S2K, I had two CRX's and an MR-2 (as well as a couple of BMW motorcycles). The CRXs were both great cars, and I'd have kept them both gladly.

nHobbes: sadly, I'm going to be traveling immediately after I get back from Florida, but I'm sure I'll want to enjoy some bragging rights after I get back and have some time to actually enjoy the newly modified toy. Let's be in touch. I think an S2K comparo is definitely in order.

Are you driving your car down and back? If so, that's some dedication!

Ok, about my engine....i hope someone can shed some light for me! PLS!

when i am on the gas just a LITTLE to maintain my speed, whether it be at 30mph or even 70, i hear a hollow noise (hard to describe) coming from my engine. sort of like air going through a building or hey, like when you blow into a bottle or something. close, but not as descriptive as i would like. it's not a constant long note, but repeating. i've heard older cars do this, but never in a new car. anyone else having this sound? it goes away when i let off the gas or give it more gas. let me know guys/gals. thanks.

I have a 02 and have had a couple instances where I grinded 2nd when the tranny is cold. I have no problems getting into 1st when the tranny is cold but 2nd is a bit tough. Also when the tranny is cold I sometime get a click-clunk sound when I depress on the clutch when moving slowly in. It goes away when it warms up.

The the first 5 minutes in any trip, I am scared every time I go into 2nd, not a good feelin'

Well it's a while since this thread was used but I thought it would be an appropriate place to post this entry: .........it's done it again: no VTEC

Noticed it a couple of days ago - still phenominal power but there isn't that adrenalin-rush feeling as the S goes through 6000rpm

My wife has spoken to the dealer and the Service Manager is going to speak to Honda before progressing this further - I guess he doesn't want to have his staff spend hours and hours (37 hours last time) investigating the problem and then be told to replace the cylinderhead

Haven't got to the point of being or about is because the dealer has always been very responsive . But the time might come

Will keep you in touch.

P.S. It's great having the extra smilies - I can get more emotion into the message than before.
