Hey everybody, I just purcahsed my 2005 S2000 used last week...
Im a super noob when it comes to cars, but I was wondering , how bad is it on the engine if I rev it up fairly high consistantly?
I have one friend who says the s2000 was designed for high RPM's , so the engine wont wear much if I keep the RPM under 6k..
Another friend says to put it over 7k RPM "once a week at most" and to try to avoid going above 5k.
Ideally I want to rev it as much as possible to impress the ladies walking by me, but I dont want to damage my car.

If you don't hit redline at least once a week, Honda will come to your home, pick up the car, and sell it to someone who knows how to enjoy it.

althoguh I hope ur not just messing with a noob for evil purposes

#1 rule with owning the S and being on this forum... no thin skin allowed! Just laugh them ALL off! I do.
And VTEC your
out! It's what the engine is made to do!
Yea rev it as high as you want as often as you want, as long as you keep up on your maintanence the only difference between redlining constantly and driving like grandma is going to be your miles per gallon.

You mean, at least once a day? For me, my day isn't complete until I rip it to 9k.

Maybe it's that you have to hit redline at least once every mile.

Will Danica Patrick come and get it?
OP, in all seriousness though, I wouldn't worry much about it. The main thing is warming up the car. You could theoretically say driving the car on warm days will prolong it as there's less time needed to come up to temp compared to a cold night.
Rev'ing more means higher sliding velocity which will theoretically result in more wear, but I wouldn't worry about it. The car is made to be driven. Just plan for a rebuild later on in life, if you really want to keep the car for decades. As long as you don't make stupid mods to it, I'd say the stock engine is easily good for 200k+ if you take care of it. You rev'ing it isn't going to kill the engine, if that's what you're worried about.

I hate to say it, but the ladies are probably thinking "What a moron!". But a Fit and a puppy if you want to impress the ladies!
Why can't he be omnipotent like JC? I wish he could see all the references that will come as a result of his idiocy.
As far as the topic on hand. I would enjoy the car....that's what most all s2000 owners do anyway. Whats the point otherwise? It has proven itself to be a reliable motor if maintenance is kept up with, so why not let the beast out of the cage?
