I'd like to know as well, I plan on getting an s2000 but I don't have a garage. I also live in the car theft capital of the world San Francisco.
Without garage in SF, forget it, not mention where and how you will park your S2000. It's very likely that your S2000 will be vandalized before anything get stolen from your car.

Be careful, even with the hard top.

[This info is common knowledge and has been posted before.]

Go look at your S2000 window when it's up, and the top is up. You can't help but to notice that there's no window channel on the top or side (toward the rear of the car).

That doesn't change when you install the hardtop. Basically, if you just pull hard on the window, you can reach in and open the top or door. It's the same problem similar convertibles have always had.

Yeah, someone at a local meet last year locked himself out and got in the car by pulling on the window and shoving is arm down to the door lock.

Got a nice baseball sized bruise on his arm in return.

Took 2 months to replace stolen seats in my S2k. Added Viper with proximity and and took steps to prevent seats from being easily removed. I keep it in the garage as much as possible. Its a crying shame these seats are constantly being stolen.

I've been thinking of adding a security system also. I'm not sure if it would be better to go with the Honda alarm system or an aftermarket system. Perhaps some of the electronics junkies could make some recommendations?

Thanks,
Dave
Stay away from the CompuStar if you leave your vehicle parked for awhile.

It draws 80mW. Comparable systems only draw 30-40mW. Although I don't think any of them have the range that the CompuStar 2WSS has.

I've had endless trouble with battery drain with the compustar and finally ripped it out.

You could overcome that of course with a simple solar trickle charger unless you have a car cover or forget to plug into the accessory socket.

i hear from ALL insurance companies that a car cover is the best theft deterrant u can buy. BUT, if someone really really wants your car, they will have it, no matter how much money u spend trying to protect it. IMHO, good insurance is the best you can do. You can also insure aftermarket goodies too, in the form of an endorsement. ask your agent for details.

Hi

The seats were stolen from my new 2005 S2000 last week and the car is at my Honda dealers awaiting a new cloth top and seats. How do I protect my 2000 from theft in the future. I intend on purchasing a set of Kodokan seat locks (I hope with a warning sticker for the windshield), and I plan on adding aftermarket security to my car when I get it back from the dealer. What kind of secuity system should I get? Any tips for protecting the 2000? I plan on keeping it in our garage when I'm home, but what about traveling around the southwest. Is is safe to leave the car in the parking lot of a large motel overnight -- with a good security system.

Thanks for your ideas.

Insure the snot out of it and ensure you don't care if someone rips it off. That's what I do and last time I checked it was still there just as I left it. I find the probability of someone stealing or vandalizing it is proportional to how much you care.

Another option is to leave a big rubber turd on the seat
