You have a few real world, ideal solutions.

1. Compustar alarm. 1.25 mile range (unobstructed view), .5 mile obstructed view range. I have one, it works well. I have a proximity sensor, and have it turned down to the point where someone has lean over the top of the car and it will send a warn away page to my remote pager. If this continues, it will trigger the alarm.
I'm very happy with my purchase. I feel safe at dinner or in the movie theater, that if anyone jacks with my car, I will know and at the very least can run out and ID the thieves or shoot them with my concealed carry pistol (licensed).

2. There are new alarms (Directed??) that use cell phone technology. I was very interested in this, but there is a charge for monitoring so I elected to go with the Compustar since my car is garaged 24X7.

Look into both of these and make a choice. I receive a discount on my insurance since I have alarms in my vehicles. Alarms won't stop thieves but many of them will look for another S2000 when they see a bright blue LED blinking. Many more will run if they trigger it. And damn near the rest of them will run for cover if I get a visual on someone breaking in because I'll be pulling the trigger quite quickly and changing clips.

Good luck!

I was going to ask how you got the concealed carry permit, but then read you live in Texas.

We don't get such things in the PRC (People's Republic of California).

Does your insurance pay for the bullet holes you put in your own car??

here's what I use " after 3 cars stolen i got all this security system

gps alarm its very kewl just dial a number and type in the serial number of the car and boom it will tell you everything ex. mph, corner streets, fwy, speed, and you could also see online 4 times a month just to see where you car exactly located it will also tell you if its moving or not. kewl
2 way viper car alarm w/ proximity sensor and extended antenna (and battery backup)
Kodokan seat locks
AutoLock Brake Pedal lock
Steering wheel lock
2 kill switch

a little story of my carsssss

1996 acura integra gsr type r conversion stolen
2000 artic blue civic si mugen conversion stolen
2000 type r champ white conversion mugen stolen

all this cars was equipped with all security and locks and still stolen
so no matter what security you have if they really want it they will steel if you ever park on the street and not too far from where you are get a 2 way pager alarm and extend the antenna so it will reach at least 3 blocks in an open area not underground it will still help a little

ps. always ready your gloc, 38, 45, or buy a magnum 22 little but deadly hehehe
i dont shoot i just scare thief if they response of shooting me back they better start running my little 22 magnum is not friendly. double action if you know what i mean
