Do people actually like the push button starter or do they find it a bit of a gimmick?

While it is certainly gimmicky, I still kinda like it.

It's become so automatic for me I don't even think about it.
I usually just hold the butten while I turn the key, My left hand isn't usually doing much anyway

In my opinion. Its a marketing thing. However, it does add to the distinctiveness of the car. There are a lot of things that don't actually serve a purpose; for example some of the exterior lines in the car. However, they all add up to make the car what it is.

Another example is I view it as the wood grain trim in a BMW. While there realy is no purpose to it, it adds a to what the car is. While the wood grain in the BMW attempts to make you feel like you are being wrapped in luxury, the start button in the s2000, attempts to add to the feeling that you are driving a car built for the track as much as its built for the road.

I found myself reaching for the start button the other day when I started my Civic I guess it's kinda gotten automatic for me whenever I start a car ...

I like it. I like the motion of pushing a button better than turning a key.

And let's not forget the BMW Z8 also came with a "START" button (after the S2000).

Sure it's a gimmick, but it is a great gimmick that has now started a trend.
