Yea i agree with Mistman. If I have to park next to somebody, I'll choose a nicer/newer/more expensive/better maintained car over some car that has never been washed and is full of trash.

Or just avoid cars that are typically driven by fatties that struggle to get out of their car and take the elevator to go down one set of stairs because they're fat and lazy and fat.

and lazy.

you can keep parking safe in the "boonies" far away from the pack or you can take your risks for a shorter walk, just find the equilibrium of the trade off of walking far and being safe...

Like you guys mentioned I do try to get the spot at the end where my drivers side is facing their passenger side only. Otherwise it's a short walk to avoid a $50 ding fix.

That is usually a good parking spot, unless you park next to the passenger side of a mini-van...and that mini-van is not there when you go to leave!

^ This.

It's like those signs on the road that tell you to pay attention to the other signs. If a driver isn't paying attention to signs to begin with then what good is that sign doing?

Unless your car is a carpet queen, door dings are a sad, pathetic fact of life. Park in too far? I've had emblems jacked off my car. Take a chance next to an expensive car? I've had kids, dogs and fatties come bounding out with no clue how far or fast to swing the door open.

I would think this would actually cause more door dings.
If they're not gonna to pay attention to how they are opening the door of their own car, what makes you think they are going to be looking at your window?

parking lots are parking lots, it's a part of life you can't hide from, you can minimize it by parking far and against a curb though. just parking close is convenient but at a mall for instance, that's where soccer moms full of kids will park and fat people (they don't like walking far unless they have to), but sometimes no action is the best action, if you put a sign/cones/bubblewrap on your car you'll seem paranoid and attract the azzhole factor which instead of a dent might be a key mark.

I guess I never thought people could be that inconsiderate. Do you swing doors open without considering if there's another person on the other side? Especially if it's a glass door you can see through? If it seems like I'm going to make contact with the other car when opening the door, I wrap my hands around the edge of the door so the metals don't touch. But I guess it's just too much to ask for some people to watch where they're swinging their heavy ass doors.
They drove into the spot, they had to have some mental capability to see that there's another car parked next to the spot they're driving into.
