So to avoid door dings completely, I've been parking in the boonies of my parking lot. But when coming back from lunch, I can usually take a closer spot from people going on lunch, but risk getting door dings. Anyone think of putting up a piece of paper against the windows saying something like 'Please watch where you open your doors.'?

I would think this would actually cause more door dings.
If they're not gonna to pay attention to how they are opening the door of their own car, what makes you think they are going to be looking at your window?
I guess I never thought people could be that inconsiderate. Do you swing doors open without considering if there's another person on the other side? Especially if it's a glass door you can see through? If it seems like I'm going to make contact with the other car when opening the door, I wrap my hands around the edge of the door so the metals don't touch. But I guess it's just too much to ask for some people to watch where they're swinging their heavy ass doors.
They drove into the spot, they had to have some mental capability to see that there's another car parked next to the spot they're driving into.

You would be surprised at the level of carelessness most people are around other's property.

I have seen people get out of their cars, slam their door into the car next to them (twice) and then keep the door pressed against the other car so it will be more stable for the big arse to exit their SUV!

I have seen people lay their shopping bags/purses, etc. on the car next to them while they search for their car keys!

I have seen people leave their shopping carts up against another car when they leave!

I have seen (and reported to the owner) a girl back into a brand new Mercedes while I was sitting across from her in my car....it was enough impact to move the Mercedes about 1 foot in the parking spot...and the girl didn't even get out of her car...just drove off!

Yes, parking lots are war zones for your car.

exercise is good for you...park in the boonies and walk!

^ This is why I can never go to Wal-Mart. But I agree, park as far away as possible and hope for the best.

at pep boys/autozone they sell this rubber magnetic mat that you attach to the side of your car. Its magnetic so it just stays on and you take it off when you get back to your car.. I think it was like $20.

I've got a nice 4-inch crease on my passenger door. My car was completely refinished/repainted October 2010.

Park & walk. I won't make that mistake again.

Let us know how that works out. Somewhere out there is a paintless-dent-removal guy whose job security just went through the roof.

It's sorry to say, however sadly true... the world is riddled with inconsiderate douche-bags... and it seems that these people breed in an abundance! Just today someone carelessly scraped the rear bumper on my wife's TL. She and I both make it a point to park as far away as possible. I really wouldn't even be angry if the person would have left a note with an apology, etc. I realize we all make mistakes, but own up to them! You know if you've bumped into a car or not!

thats just how society is today...its not your property so why should you care about it? its a horrible way to live life but douchebags live by it...i had the entire passenger side of my brand new 2010 ford edge scraped by some asshole while i was in the grocery store...i honestly have no idea how you could not notice or feel it but its from the front tire to the rear tire...not even a single note or phone number...what perplexes me is how the hell is that even possible? good thing is that its only in the clearcoat and i can get it out but still...inconsiderate asshole drivers...especially here in socal

The thing is....that you all are assuming that everybody is sober or mentally stable. If the other driver is ended on pills, they may not even know that they scratched your whole car until the next day when they see it on their car.

Just park your car normal, its just a piece of metal. Being paranoid about it will just drive you crazy. Fix it if it gets dented or scratched lol.
