I read a lot about the 1-2 grind and the notchy 2-3. I'm not sure what you guys mean by "grind" and "notchy". Can you guys please explain this? I feel that it is sometimes difficult to get into 2nd gear. Does anyone know why I have to pull harder to get into 2nd than the other gears?

 

Grind is when you hear a definate noise, like running comb over a table desk edge. Notchy is when you feel feedback through the shifter know when shifting. That would be my definition.

Second gear is tough to get into for me when it is cold. My tranny is getting better with age, it is getting smoother. I have the 2-3 notch but oddly there isn't a notch when the tranny is cold but as it warms up there is a notch if I go straight to 3rd without pausing a bit. If you go from 2 to Neutral to 3rd, it lessens the notch.
