Default Question about the Toda Header?

I was hoping that those of you who are running the Toda Header on your S2000 could tell me if you are having any heat related problems (Heat Soak) due to the fact that the Toda Header does not have a Header Heat Shield. Have you seen a difference in the way that your S2000 runs/performs from heat related problems with out the Heat Shield? I live in Houston TX where it is very hot and humid in the summer. Will running a Toda Header with out the Header Heat Shield cause any problems?

I ask because I want to get the Hondata ECU Reflash for the Toda Header for my new 2006 S2000, but don

Having no heat shield on a header makes for extremely high underhood temps. Personally, I found it necessary to get a vented hood (with Toda header).

In some ways, it's too bad Hondata linked their reflash with a Toda header. What the BIGGER unknown is, what would the reflash would have done all by itself on a totally stock '06. Makes you wonder why they did it with a header at all.

Acoording to the Hondata web site the difference that the Toda header and test pipe made was a whopping 1.9 hp and 1.6 ft/lbs of torque.

Really doesn't seem worth it, if that is accurate and I understand it correctly.

The following is a quote from thier web site:

"This graph shows:

06 S2000 with Heatshield gasket, exhaust and Hondata reflash with stock header and cat - red line.

06 S2000 with Heatshield gasket, exhaust and Hondata reflash with Toda header and test pipe - blue line.

The purpose of this test was to see the difference the Toda header and test pipe made.

The Toda header and test pipe were first tested with the standard Hondata 06 S2000 reflash. The gains were only minimal, partially because the car was running very lean from 5500-6000 rpm. Lowering the VTEC point adding fuel and optimizing the ignition resulted in the reflash detailed above.

Combining an ECU reflash with a Toda header makes more gains than each individual item."

Go to this link: http://www.hondata.com/reflash_s2k_toda_header.html

Then scroll down to the last graph towards the bottom of the page. Look under "Technical"

I'm glad I'm not the only one to give one of these .................... when I read that thread. I thought maybe I was missing something and couldn't figure out why everyone was doing cartwheels when it cost so much for a Toda header and a re-flash for such a tiny little gain. If it did next to nothing with both, makes you kinda wonder if each single one is even worth it.
I'm still convinced that with my Toda header, I spent a whole lot of money for a whole lot of very little. Oh well, maybe it's time to get my butt dyno calibrated.

Xviper, I think what the Hondata web site and above mentioned graph are saying is that all but 1.9hp and 1.6 ft/lbs of torque are coming strictly from the ECU Reflash. The Toda header and test pipe make very little difference.

What I don't understand is, why they have two different ECU Reflashes? If the ECU Reflash that they call

You can always fabricate a heatshield that attaches to the battery/fusebox heatshield. I did this for my Toda header...I also had the header JetHot coated. I haven't noticed that heat soak has been any more prevalent than normal.

I called and asked but all they keep saying is you need the Toda header for that reflash.
Sounds pretty useless if you have to spend another huge wad of money for a product that Toda won't even warranty. Many broken brackets with Toda and no distributor would even honor a warranty on the thing.

Thanks for the heads up on the Toda, last thing I need is to blow more money on useless mods.Sounds like Hondata needs to be a little more diversified and not tell every one "either use this header or forget the reflash" .Fine then keep your reflash,I guess you don't need my buisness.
