I exaggerated.

You may have been talking to a service writer, whose job is to take the keys and write up the customer complaints. That job requires practically no knowledge about working on any particular car.

Or you may have spoken with a trainee or apprentice who does oil changes and would only do more complicated work under the guidance of an experinced mechanic.

Or maybe the mechanic has worked in dealerships with a lift at his/her disposal for so long, they forgot that it could be done any other way.

I've only owned two Honda-made vehicles: both my '94 Integra and my '00 S2000 have jacking points in the front center and the rear center. I certainly wouldn't get warm fuzzy feelings if someone told me that they could only be jacked up from the sides.

You'll have to decide for yourself; I wasn't there. If you've been satisfied to date, maybe they're OK.

"Nice" has never been on my list of service department qualification checks. I prefer "honest", "informed" and "skilled". "Proactive" would be icing on the cake.

Many dishonest (mechanics, sales people, etc.) are very "nice" when they are ripping you off. They are trying to be beLIEvable.

This is great for a floor jack. What about stands?
Do you place the stands at the factory jacking points?
It's not very clear as to where to place the stands.

Thanks!

Yes! There's a sort of re-inforced notch along the side beam under the car - just behind the front tire and just in front of the rear tire. You can actually place your jack stand anywhere along that ridged beam but having them at the extreme ends makes your car more stable.
Here's an idea of where I'm talking about:

Hint: spray those 3 cat bolts in advance with "Liquid Wrench" (or WD-40 as a lessor alternative). Jack up by the "pumpkin" as high as you can. You only need to put jack stands under the rear locations. The front of the car can stay on the ground for the exhaust job.
ps. leave the floor jack under the pumpkin (with some of the car's weight still on it) after you've lowered the car onto the stands just for insurance. It isn't really in the way if you have the floor jack sticking straight out the back.
