Question about VIN #
When I purchased my s2k the salesman said that you could tell what number car you had in production by looking at the last 4 numbers in the VIN #. Is this correct, or a bunch of crap? The reason I ask is that he told me I had the first 2001 in the St. Louis area and I was just wondering.
Sonne,
Your VIN is your car number of North American (US only?) production and year. However, there is no regional (city, state) information in your VIN. So, its up to you to trust what you dealer said about the St. Louis area.

Reed Z,
Thanks for the info. My last numbers are 197 for the MY 2001, so I guess he might be right. My car was produced in August and I took delivery in November. It is my understanding that the delay in delivery was due to the seatbelt recall. After I posted I did a search on VIN #

sonne, what dealership did you buy yours from? It's definitely possible that you have the first 2001 in the St. Louis area, because I was first on my dealership's list and my VIN ends in 773.
