Default Newbie VIN question

Hi all,

I just recently bought my S2K and was wondering about my VIN number. Since I have a 2000 model and the last six of my VIN is 009059, does that mean my S was the 9059th S ever made? If not what number was it? I'm just overall curious to know but lately I've read there are some concerns with some of the first S's made and their transmissions. Any help would be appreciated.

The last few digits of your VIN signify the number of production. So, your S2000 was #9,059 to be built for the 2000 model year.

My first S was #6342 as an '00 and my second S is #285 as an '02.

airgate, don't the digits in the VIN indicate the build # of the car relative to that model year *AND* that region?

tigerfan, to address your concerns about the tranny probs, is there any way to know whether the previous owner(s) have gone to the dealer and had the various TSB's performed? If not, it's up to you now to do them if it's still under warranty. How many miles on it? Seems like an '00 would have a fair bit of mileage by now and if it doesn't have any problems, I'd say you're in good shape for a good long stretch.

Yes! Thanks for reminding me. . .

There are a few versions of S2000's, the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) spec, Euro Spec and US Spec. There may also be a Canadian spec but I believe it falls under US Spec. Same as the Middle East having Euro Specs.

But I'm not 100% positive on some of this.

Thanks for the info. My S actually only has 11k on it right now, but I havent had time to call and find out if its still under warranty. If it is I will swing down there real quick and have any little thing I can think of fixed. Also, this is the first car I have ever owned thats under warranty(assuming it is) because Im only 21 and this is only the 4th car I've had. How small of an issue will they fix under warranty? For instance I have a tiny tear in the molding that keeps out the water from the window on the driverside. It doesnt leak when it rains but it does when I wash it so I'm assuming it will only get worse as more time goes by. Would they fix such a thing? Any info yall can give is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jj
