question about warranties
I have a question about warranties...When you modify your car (i.e. intake ) or anything else for that matter does it void the warranty on that part or all the other parts in the engine...I am just asking to put my father at ease...
thanks in advance

Various Honda dealers in the U.K. will offer aftermarket tuning even using Honda, Mugen, products. What they will normally tell you is that your warranty will be voided insofar as it can be shown that that particular modification was responsible for the the problem you are experiencing. It's known as having your cake and eating it! Work it out for yourself what chance you have if the work's been carried out by someone other than a Honda dealer!
It's simple, and it's grey. Legally, unless the dealership can prove that a mod caused a specific problem they can't deny warranty coverage just because of a modification, although they often try to. Many people at that point just believe that's the way it is and let it go. That's why I believe they try that tactic. If they can get a certain percentage to walk away without a fight they will. However, you can take your case up with higher people within the organization such as a regional manager and if that fails, there is always legal recourse.
On the other side of the coin, the engine consists of many parts, and changing one thing may cause a failure somewhere else. That's why often times a dealer may deny warranty coverage to the engine when you make certain mods to the engine. This shouldn't affect other parts of the car but could if, for instance, you put a supercharger on the engine and the extra power causes the rear end to blow up.
So there is no simple, 100% answer. The official legal answer is they can't deny warranty coverage unless they can show that a mod caused the failure. However, sometimes it's not clear whether the mod caused the failure and that's when the disputes happen.
