You shouldn't get any falsing in Cali. The chps are all ka, and a few rural counties are using K, but most are also using ka. All the doors are k in my experience.
Lucky! Around here you're apt to run into anything. There is a spot on I-75 between Macon and Cordele, where the GHP frequently runs an optical speed trap. Nasty!

I failed to mention the hand-held laser and aerial units... But they don't false my detector.

K-40 built in detector with laser diffuser actually works pretty well. We installed quite a few of these into high end cars at a shop I used to work for. You install the sensors into the bumpers and the led's and speakers where ever you want inside the car so its hidden away. very cool system. But the valentine has got to be the best all in one dash mounted unit by far.
I have the full K40 system on my car (with both front and rear laser diffusers) and it's great. Can definitely pick up the smallest signals from at least a good 0.5 mile away. Everything is hidden and looks OEM, so there's no need to plug/unplug from the cigarette lighter adapter for fear of someone ripping your top and stealing your $4-500 V1.

Only drawbacks:

You need a custom install job, which is $$. ANd the parts itself aren't cheap.

If you see a cop while flying down a twisty road, just keep your momentum. If the cop can catch up to you then pull over....chances are their crown vic won't handle as well as the S.
