Default Question regarding shifting

What RMP's do you guys normally shift at? I feel that if I shift conservatively at like 2500-3500 RPM I accelerate way too slowly and I can see the car behind me tailgating. Also 1st to 2nd is always kinda bumpy. But when I shift at around 4000-5000 it feels a little smoother but I don't think that'll give me good milage lol.

So what RPM's do you shift at?

When I'm cruising around town I think I usually shift around 4k. Mine isn't bad, but I'm sure there are others who get better MPGs.

I always shifted pretty high unless I was driving very conservative. It's okay not to rev it up all the time but remember that this car was made to be driven...definitely not a car you always want to shift low on.

Are you having grinding problems from 1st to 2nd?

No grinding problems thankfully, just a little notchy. I have to refine my manual driving skills I guess lol I've only been driving manual since October. Sometimes I make a great shift and it's perfectly smooth, other times it doesn't go so well. That's why I was thinking maybe there's an RPM range that's optimal for shifting into the next gear.

Also, I got the car used. I'm not sure if the previous owner installed gears? In 6th gear going 75 MPH I'm at 4000 rpm cruising on the highway.

I shift around 3.5-4k in the first few gears until I reach speed limit. It's normal to rev this high in a car like this. If you try to shift around 2.5K in every gear, the car might have to work harder just to get up to speed. Low end torque simply sucks in this car, but that's a given due to the nature of the engine.

Sedate driving - 4000 to 5000 rpm
Spirited city driving - 6000 rpm
All other times - 9000 rpm

I typically end up crusing in the 3000 to 4000 range
